How We Govern
The Board works to ensure Smiles For Miles remains strong,
compliant, and focused on measurable community impact. Board responsibilities
include:
Protecting
and advancing the mission and strategic direction
Providing
financial oversight, budgeting, and responsible use of donated funds
and in-kind gifts
Ensuring
legal and ethical compliance (federal, state, and organizational
bylaws)
Reviewing
program results and supporting continuous improvement
Building
strong partnerships and maintaining public trust
Ethical Standards and Conflicts of Interest
Smiles For Miles is committed to ethical governance. Board
members are expected to act in good faith, avoid personal benefit from
organizational decisions, and disclose potential conflicts of interest. When a
conflict exists, the Board member will recuse him/her self from related
discussions and decisions.
Meetings and Records
The Board meets regularly to review programs, finances, and
organizational needs. Meeting minutes are recorded and retained to support
transparency and accountability.
Financial Accountability
We maintain accurate records of income, expenses, and
donated goods. Funds and in-kind donations are used to support Smiles For Miles
programs in alignment with donor intent and community needs.
